In the past 2020-2021 academic year, Hainan University (HNU) has made upgrades in campus facilities.

In the past academic year, HNU sought funds from multiple channels to provide a guarantee for the university's sustainable development. This year, the university's total funding has reached 2.77 billion yuan ($430 million), an increase of 14.79 percent year on year.

The construction of various projects at HNU has been advancing rapidly. The total projects construction area is 400,000 square meters, and the total investment amounts to 3.1 billion yuan.

The construction of the scientific research building at the Biomedical and Health Research Center at the Guanlan Lake Campus as well as the information technology building expansion project have been started. The expert and scholar building of the College of Tropical Crops, the national key laboratory of tropical crops, and the graduate apartments and affiliated canteens have completed their main bodies of construction and will be completed soon.

The university's informatization construction is advancing rapidly. In the first half of 2021, the smart-campus projects such as the new one-card system, office automation system, postgraduate management system, and video conference system have been completed and put into operation.

In October last year, the renovated No 1 student canteen was warmly welcomed by teachers and students, and has started the pilot work for an online food delivery business. The problem of air conditioning in the library of Haidian campus has been solved, providing a more comfortable learning environment for teachers and students.
