During the past 2020-2021 academic year, Hainan University (HNU) has made remarkable achievements in discipline construction and degree construction. 

In 2020, three disciplines in HNU namely chemistry, materials science, and agricultural sciences ranked in the top 1 percent of Essential Science Indicators (ESI) global ranking. In the 2020 Shanghai Ranking's Academic Ranking of World Universities, nine disciplines including crop science, law science, and Marxist theory made the list. Among them, the law science discipline ranked 18th in China, among the top 10 percent, and the Marxist theory discipline is among the top 20 percent.

There are 10 newly added postgraduate degree authorization points at HNU and four doctoral degree authorization points, namely Marxist theory, biomedical engineering, civil engineering, and electronic information as well as two newly added first-level master's degree programs and four professional degree master's programs.

With 14 doctoral degree authorization programs and 55 master's degree programs, HNU's talents training system is more dynamic than ever.
