HNU makes breakthroughs in talent training during past academic year

In the 2020-2021 academic year, Hainan University (HNU) has made breakthroughs in talent training and has laid a solid foundation to kick off the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25).

HNU added six new majors, which include cryptography science and technology, biomedical engineering, and artificial intelligence. It also added 11 new national first-class undergraduate majors and 18 provincial first-level undergraduate majors. The chemical engineering and technology major has been professionally certified, and there are five courses that have been included in the first batch of national-level first-class undergraduate courses.

The 2021 enrollment has wrapped up, and a total of 8,274 undergraduate freshmen were admitted. The admission scores for China's college entrance exam of 17 provinces and cities including Beijing, Tianjin and Shanxi have improved compared with previous years.

The enrollment scale and quality of postgraduates have also increased. In 2021, 296 doctoral students have been admitted, an increase of 29.82 percent year on year, and 3,037 postgraduates have been admitted, an increase of 7.58 percent year on year.

As for academic achievements and awards, PhD Qi Fei from HNU's Law School has had commentary articles published in top journals such as Science and Nature. Li Peizhe from the School of Tourism also has had articles published in the top international journal Tourism Management

The graduate student team from the School of Public Administration won the first prize at the Fifth China Public Administration Management Case Competition. A dance titled "Give Blue Back to the Ocean" performed by HNU students won first prize and the Excellent Creation Award at the Sixth National College Student Art Exhibition, and the College of Forestry project group won the honorary award at the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) student design competition.
