Procedures of residence permits application for new students

Step 1

Visa application before entering China

1. The Admission Office of the College of International Education will send the admission notice, notice of registration, and the JW201/JW202 form (visa application form) to the students.

2. International students must apply for "X1" (studying for more than 6 months) or "X2" (studying for less than 6 months) visas at the local Chinese embassy or consulate with a valid passport, admission notice, and the JW201/JW202 form.

 

Step 2

Entry and registration for accommodation

1. New students must enter the country with an X1 or X2 visa.

2. You shall arrive at Hainan University as soon as possible after entering the country. You must go to the local police station within 24 hours of entry to register for accommodation. ( Failure to register within 24 hours of arrival is considered invalid for registration)

3. The X1 visa is valid for 30 days starting from the time of entry. In these 30 days, new students must complete the residence permit application procedure.

 

Step 3

Registration for study, and medical examination

1. Go to the college to get the registration process sheet and complete all the processes.
2. You shall go to Hainan International Travel Health Care Center, China Customs for medical examination, and bring with you the following items: original passport and photocopy, photocopy of visa, admission notice, and medical examination fee of about 500 yuan, and two 2-inch photos with white background (the time needed for medical examination varies for students from different countries. Please go to college office room 103 for information). The medical examination results usually come out after 3 working days, and the medical reports are sent directly to college office room 103.

 

Step 4

Submission of visa application documents

1. If you pass the medical examination, you must go to office room 103 of the College of International Education to receive the documents for visa application.

2. If you fail to pass the medical examination, you must leave the country immediately.

3. The items required for residence permit application are: completed registration process sheet (with tuition fees, insurance premiums, etc. paid), your passport, original JW201/JW202 form, original admission notice, original medical certificate, and a copy of the "Accommodation Registration" from the local police station, a visa application form, and a visa application letter (to be issued by the office).

 

Step 5

Go to the Exit-entry Administration of Public Security Bureau for visa application

1. International students must go to office room 103 of the College of International Education on their own to receive the documents for visa application, and go to the Exit-entry Administration of Haikou Public Security Bureau for on-the-spot information collection and extension of residence permits.

2. The items required for residence permit application are: completed registration process sheet (with tuition fees, insurance fees, etc. paid), original and photocopy of passport, photocopy of visa page of passport, photocopy of entry stamp showing date of entry, and original acceptance notice, original medical certificate, photocopy of JW202 form, photocopy of "Accommodation Registration" issued by the local police station, attendance report for last semester , original examination result report, visa application form, and visa application letter (to be issued by the office).

 

Step 6

Record-keeping after issue of visa

1. Students must present the above-mentioned items on their own to the Exit-entry Administration of Public Security Bureau to apply for residence permits. Once these items are accepted by the Exit-entry Administration, the passports can be retrieved after 15 working days (excluding Saturdays and Sundays and national holidays).

2. After retrieving the passports, students must photocopy the renewed residence permits and present them to college office room 103 for record-keeping.



Procedures of residence permits application for previously enrolled students

Step 1

Registration for accommodation

If the place of accommodation of previously enrolled student is changed, he/she must go to the local police station to register the accommodation with a passport and a rental contract (voucher).


Step 2

Registration for study, and submission of documents for visa application

1. International students are required to apply for residence permit extension one month before visas are expired.

2. Go to the college to receive the registration process sheet and complete all processes.

3. Preparation of visa application documents: The completed registration process sheet (with attendance report, examination result report, report on overall performance in school, and payment of tuition fees, insurance premiums, etc.), passport, and “Accommodation Registration” issued by the local police station, shall be presented to office room 103.

4. The office staff will update information of the passport to the latest online, and prepare: visa application form, visa application letter, and the JW201/JW202 form.

 

Step 3

Go to the Exit-entry Administration of Public Security Bureau for visa application

1. International students shall go to office room 103 on their own to receive the documents for visa application, and go to the Exit-entry Administration of Haikou Public Security Bureau for on-the-spot information collection and extension of the residence permits.

2. The items required for residence permit extension are: original and photocopy of passport, photocopy of the visa page of passport, photocopy of entry stamp showing date of entry, photocopy of JW202 form, photocopy of "Accommodation Registration" issued by the local police station, original attendance report and examination result report for the last semester, visa application form, and visa application letter (to be issued by the office).

 

Step 4

Record-keeping after issue of visas

1. Students shall present the above materials to the Exit-entry Administration of Public Security Bureau to apply for residence permits. Once these items are accepted by the Exit-entry Administration, the passports can be retrieved after 15 working days (excluding Saturdays and Sundays and national holidays).

2. After retrieving the passports, students shall photocopy and present the renewed residence permits to college office room 103 for record-keeping.

 

Notes:

1. Each international student is required to strictly abide by the Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People's Republic of China, and the Regulations of the People's Republic of China on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners.
