An online roundtable conference was held in Haikou, capital of Hainan province, on Dec 10, seeking to boost communications between China and the Netherlands in the medical and healthcare sector, as well as to explore the establishment of an international medical cooperation platform. 

The event was organized by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Beijing, Consulate General of the Netherlands in Guangzhou, Embassy of China in the Netherlands, and the Boao Hope City Administration. 

Attendees to the conference included representatives from more than 30 medical and health parks and institutions like Maastricht Life Science Park, Utrecht Science Park, as well as Health Valley Netherlands.

Boao Hope City, which is a national medical tourism pilot zone, has gradually formed industrial clusters in various fields, such as tumor treatment, medical cosmetology, and assisted reproduction. There is vast room for cooperation between Boao Hope City and the Netherlands, which boasts a vibrant life sciences and biopharmaceutical industry cluster, as well as innovative biotechnology industries.

Peter Bootsma, counselor for Health, Welfare, and Sports at the Embassy of the Netherlands in Beijing, said that the policies of the Hainan Free Trade Port and Boao Hope City provide a fast track for the latest and most advanced international medical products to enter China, which has drawn great attention and interest from Dutch pharmaceutical companies. 

Since the beginning of this year, we have been in close contact with Boao Hope City, and we hope that through this meeting, we can help Dutch pharmaceutical companies find new ways to enter the Chinese market, he said. 

Gu Gang, head of the Boao Hope City Administration, detailed the preferential policies, the achievements of pilot moves, and the specific methods for innovative Dutch pharmaceutical products to enter China to all participating representatives.

We hope to provide a platform for everyone to display their achievements, promote products, and find partners, said Gu, adding that in the future, Dutch pharmaceutical equipment manufacturers and R&D institutions can apply for these services if they have innovative products suitable for the Chinese market.

The administration will provide all-around and full-process services to help manufacturers enter the Chinese market, Gu said.
