Hainan's first injection of a recombinant herpes zoster vaccine was delivered at Lecheng's United Family International Vaccine Center on Nov 14, 2020.

The vaccine is currently the only recombinant herpes zoster vaccine approved for marketing in China. It is used for people over or at the age of 50. 

There are currently limited treatments for herpes zoster, and vaccination is the only effective prevention and control method. Previously, the shingles vaccine was only available in major cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in Guangdong province.
