Hainan's foreign trade exceeds 150b yuan between Jan-Aug

According to Haikou Customs, the total value of Hainan's imported and exported goods reached 152 billion yuan ($21 billion) in the first eight months of this year, representing a 21.8 percent increase year on year. Its imports amounted to 101.77 billion yuan, while its exports reached 50.3 billion yuan, a 20.1 percent and 25.4 percent increase, respectively.

The import and export values of Danzhou, Haikou, and Sanya ranked top three in Hianan, with a total value of 68.32 billion yuan, 53.76 billion yuan, and 17.52 billion yuan. They experienced year-on-year growth rates of 18.7 percent, 39.8 percent, and 12 percent, respectively.

In the first eight months of 2023, Hainan's general trade reached 90.37 billion yuan, representing 59.4 percent of its total trade value. The value of trade through bonded logistics reached 27.4 billion yuan, accounting for 18 percent. Additionally, duty-free imports achieved a value of 15.97 billion yuan, representing a 24.4 percent increase.

Hainan's imported consumer goods reached 27.92 billion yuan within this same period, accounting for 27.4 percent of the total imports in the province.

Exported mechanical and electrical products, refined oil, and agricultural products also saw a significant increase. Hainan exported mechanical and electrical products worth 18.99 billion yuan, a 50 percent increase. Meanwhile, the export value of refined oil reached 9.41 billion yuan, a 39.7 percent increase. Agricultural product exports accounted for 3.08 billion yuan, an 18.5 percent increase.
