Wenchang

Wenchang city is situated in the northeastern part of Hainan province. To the southeast and north lie the Hainan and Qiongzhou Strait respectively whilst the city is bordered on the west by Qiongshan Town and to the southwest by Ding'an county and Qionghai city.

The outline of the whole city is approximately half-moon shaped with a north to south distance of 99 kilometers, an east to west distance of 65 km and a total border circumference of 285 km. The total land area is 2,488 square kilometers. The city faces the vast sea areas to the north, east and south with a coastline running for 289.8 km dotted with 40 large and small bays. Its total maritime area is 5,245 sq km.

Wenchang city offers a rich selection of tourism resources including the First Peak of East Hainan -- Tongu Mountain Ridge, the rare Marine Forest Park -- Bamen Bay Mangrove Scenic area, Stone Park, Fengjia Bay Submarine World, China's Great Barrier Reef -- the Yunlong Bay Natural Underwater Garden (made of coral), and the unique coastal scenery of Coconut Bay. Other attractions include the world renowned former residence of the Soong family, the Confuciaus Temple in Wenchang, the Magnolia Lighthouse or "the First Lighthouse of Asia", and the Xibei Academy. 

In 2022, Wenchang's GDP reached 34.4 billion yuan ($5 billion), ranking sixth among Hainan province, up 3.9 percent year-on-year.
