Hainan's foreign trade growth rate ranks 2nd in China in H1

Haikou Customs announced on July 17 that the total import and export value of Hainan's trade in goods in the first half of the year was 91.7 billion yuan ($13.6 billion), a year-on-year increase of 56 percent, with the province's growth rate being 46.6 percentage points faster than the national level, ranking second in China.

Among them, exports were valued at 26.41 billion yuan, an increase of 86.6 percent, while imports were valued at 65.29 billion yuan, a 46.3 percent increase. In June of this year, Hainan's foreign trade imports and exports reached 17.09 billion yuan, a new high in a single month's import and export value, climbing 35.6 percent.

From January to June, Danzhou recorded 42.32 billion yuan in imports and exports, a growth of 66.9 percent, while its contribution rate to the growth of the province's imports and exports was as high as 51.5 percent. Haikou recorded 28.56 billion yuan in imports and exports, a growth of 36.9 percent, while its contribution rate was 23.4 percent. Sanya's imports and exports in this period were valued at 12.08 billion yuan, an increase of 21.8 percent, with its contribution rate being 6.6 percent, while Chengmai's imports and exports were valued at 4.82 billion yuan, an increase of 229.3 percent, with its contribution rate being 10.2 percent.

During the same period, the imports and exports of the special customs supervision area was valued at 34.83 billion yuan, up 55.7 percent and accounting for 38 percent of the province’s total import and export value. Among them, the imports and exports of Yangpu Bonded Port Area was 19.19 billion yuan, surging 123 percent, the imports and exports of Haikou Comprehensive Bonded Zone was 15.6 billion yuan, climbing 13.3 percent, while the imports and exports of Haikou Airport Comprehensive Bonded Zone was 40.93 million yuan.

ASEAN and the European Union were the top two trading partners of Hainan, while the imports and exports between Hainan and countries along the Belt and Road also grew rapidly. In the first half of the year, Hainan's imports and exports to ASEAN reached 15.44 billion yuan, an increase of 42.1 percent and accounting for 16.8 percent of the province's total, while that to the EU was valued at 14.95 billion yuan, an increase of 47.9 percent and accounting for 16.3 percent of the province's total.

During the same period, imports and exports to countries along the Belt and Road reached 32.21 billion yuan, up 92 percent and accounting for 35.1 percent of the province's total, while that to other RCEP members were valued at 31.63 billion yuan, up 40.1 percent and accounting for 34.5 percent of the province's total.
