Hainan to hold intl culture week on brocade, embroidery

The 2022 (2nd) Hainan Brocade and Embroidery World Culture Week will be held in Haikou, capital of South China's Hainan province, from March 12 to 16. With a theme of "Inheriting, innovating, and creating a brilliant world," it aims to create a regional ethnic handicrafts exchange platform and promote Hainan's traditional culture to the world. 

At the opening and closing ceremonies of the culture week, attendees will enjoy two Li brocade fashion shows in the new form of swimwear and full dresses.

The 2022 intangible cultural heritage (ICH) weaving, embroidery, printing, and dyeing skills exhibition will open in Haikou on March 12. Brocade and embroidery works from various countries, as well as from the local Li ethnic group will be displayed during the event. The exhibition will extend its closing time to 9 p.m. every day, allowing more visitors to experience the charm of traditional culture.

During the event, scholars, entrepreneurs, and officials from government departments will gather in Hainan to discuss the protection, inheritance, as well as development of ICH items in the context of the free trade port

In addition, a Hainan ICH promotion conference will be held on March 12, focusing on promoting the province's tourism, cultural, and sports resources, as well as free trade port policies, providing investment opportunities for enterprises to explore.
