The event – being hosted by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Hainan Provincial Government – wil run to the end of December. The main venue has been established in the port city of Haikou and there are sub-venues in Hainan cities of Sanya, Danzhou, Qionghai, Wanning and in Lingshui Li autonomous county.

The 2020 Hainan World Leisure Tourism Expo, the 2020 Hainan International Tourism Food Expo and the 2020 Hainan International Tourism Equipment Expo will be hosted during the carnival.

The event is seen as a grand festival for the island's people and a big event to attract more tourists.

The carnival is also a large platform for Hainan to promote new tourism business, market new tourism products, launch new tourism routes and to create new tourism sector growth points.

Officials said the activities will cover areas ranging from tourism, culture, sports and exhibitions to commerce.

They said it will give full play to the driving force of the tourism industry and create a large platform for industry business matchmaking.
