Boao Hope City offers access to global innovative drugs

Boao Hope City, an international medical and tourism pilot zone in Boao, Qionghai, recently announced its introduction of a new global innovative drug two months after its global launch.

Chinese patients are now able to get immediate access to the world's innovative drugs and medical devices at Boao Hope City due to the special free trade port policies granted to the zone.

The new drug Ripretinib is the world's first innovative drug for fourth-line treatment of advanced gastrointestinal stromal tumor, a type of tumor that originates in the gastrointestinal tract. The drug has offered hope to patients who once had no medicine available after the progress of the third-line treatment.

Established in February 2013, Boao Hope City is one of the major functional platforms for the construction of the Hainan Free Trade Port. It enjoys many special policies that support its efforts to build itself into a regional medical hub.

At present, the number of imported licensed medical equipment has exceeded 100 cases. Riputinib is the first clinically urgently needed drug that can be taken away from the pilot area after the announcement of interim measures on the administration of using urgently needed imported clinical drugs outside Boao Hope City in March this year.
