Xiuwen county in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has embarked on a path of green growth while also maintaining social and economic development.

In 2022, Xiuwen planted and raised trees on 1,500 mu (100 hectares) of land, increasing the county's forest coverage rate to 55.74 percent. Meanwhile, the local air quality was rated excellent for 99.2 percent of the year.

Also, the disposal and utilization rates of hazardous waste and medical waste both reached 100 percent.

The pilot program for Yanyinghu National Wetland Park passed its acceptance inspection. Additionally, 48 coal mines were restored and rehabilitated, covering over 4,000 mu.

This year, Xiuwen aims to adhere to the strategy of prioritizing local ecology by strengthening green production, consumption, living, and civilization, and has set the following goals.

The county is projected to achieve a 100 percent compliance rate for good-quality water in centralized drinking water sources, with a sewage treatment rate maintained at 95 percent or above.

The ecological restoration of three coal mines, and the management of three projects aimed at preventing and controlling geological disasters, will be completed by the end of the year.

In addition, the development of under-forest planting, forest healthcare, and forest tourism will be promoted, expanding the scale of under-forest edible mushrooms to 1,500 mu of land, traditional Chinese medicine to 2,000 mu, and animal husbandry to 15,000 mu.
