Taekwondo championship held in Xiuwen

The 2023 "Taishan Sports Cup" Guizhou Provincial Mass Taekwondo Championship (Guiyang Station), also the 5th Guiyang City Mass Taekwondo Championship, was held from July 27-30 at the Yangming Cultural Park in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Sponsored by the Guizhou Taekwondo Association and organized by the Guiyang Taekwondo Association, the event was part of the "Cool Guiyang" summer activities this year.

More than 1,000 athletes in more than 50 teams from the cities of Changsha, Chengdu, and Chongqing, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, and Guizhou province participated in the event.

In addition to taekwondo competitions, the event also featured thousands of people reciting classic quotations from Yangming culture, thousands of people performing taekwondo, taekwondo stunt group demonstrations, taekwondo national champion Pei Guangqi offering guidance to athletes, Yangming culture and sports exchange, activities promoting summer tourism in Xiuwen county, and food tasting.

Taekwondo is the most popular sport among highschoolers in China, and currently tens of thousands of students in Guiyang participate in taekwondo training all year round, according to Gu Chongyun, president of the Guiyang Taekwondo Association.

Gu said he expected that by taking the event as an opportunity, more tourists would visit Xiuwen to enjoy its stunning scenery, view its scenic spots, and experience pleasantly cool Guiyang.
