Xiuwen stages Huadeng Opera competition

A Huadeng Opera competition was held in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province on Feb 3.

Huadeng Opera is traditional folk art featuring people holding fans and handkerchiefs, dancing and singing. The competition attracted 12 teams from various townships, towns, and sub-districts in Xiuwen.

According to historical records, Huadeng Opera has existed in Xiuwen for more than 500 years.

The judges scored the 12 teams on the spot based on their lantern-making process, libretto, and stage performance.
