Xiuwen county, in Southwest China's Guizhou province, has improved its air, water and soil quality within a year by implementing these three aspects.

Xiuwen county has promoted the prevention and control of air pollution throughout the county through structural adjustment, control of coal combustion, dust prevention, ban on burning, control of tail gas and other measures. These practices have resulted in Xiuwen achieving stable air quality reaching the national secondary standard.

In the first three quarters, the county has received excellent air quality ratings of 100 percent.

The sewage treatment plant (phase III) project in the county has been completed, the centralized drinking water source protection project has been built, the Yanying Mountain Stone Dam Drinking Water Source Protection Area has been designated, and Xiuwen River has been fully regulated and investigated.

In the first three quarters, the standard rate of centralized drinking water sources above the township level was 100 percent, and the standard rate of surface water quality was also 100 percent.

Additionally, the county has strengthened the investigation on soil pollution on construction land, strictly managed the access to soil on construction land, and done a good job in accounting for the safe utilization rate of contaminated land.

This year, the county has urged five key soil pollution supervision enterprises to maintain soil quality control and to prevent soil pollution. From January to September, the safe utilization rate of construction land in the county was 100 percent.
