Xiuwen approved to build demonstration zone for kiwi fruit protection

Recently, the China National Intellectual Property Administration released a list of 50 newly-established national geographical indication product protection demonstration zones for 2021.

The Xiuwen kiwi fruit national geographical indication product protection demonstration zone made the list. Xiuwen county is located in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

The 50 demonstration zones have strong geographical representation, wide protection types, high visibility, high comprehensive benefits, and a focus on rural revitalization. The preparatory period is three years, from September 2021 to September 2024.

The approval of Xiuwen kiwi fruit national geographical indication product protection demonstration zone will further drive the development of the industrial chain and improve the quality and competitiveness of Xiuwen kiwi fruit.

Xiuwen kiwi fruit has a history of more than 30 years. It is currently grown over an area of 167,000 mu (11,133.33 hectares), ranking first in Guizhou province and third in the country. The brand value of Xiuwen kiwi fruit is 2.34 billion yuan ($363.18 million).

As the leading industry among farmers in Xiuwen, the growing of Xiuwen kiwi fruit has benefited 108 administrative villages in the county, with more than 5,000 growers.

Xiuwen Kiwi fruit is not only sold all over the country, but also exported to Russia, Japan, and other places, and has become one of 15 Guizhou geographical indication products involved in the bilateral agreement between China and the European Union on geographical indication.
