Xiuwen county celebrates progress during 13th Five-Year Plan

Xiuwen county in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, made every effort to improve people's livelihoods during the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period. The county achieved great success by focusing on five main areas.

Transportation construction

In the past five years, Xiuwen county accelerated the integrated development of Guiyang and the construction and development of northern Guiyang's new city area.

It successively built two urban arterial roads -- Bailong Road and Tongcheng Avenue. Jinlong Avenue, which is still under construction, will lead directly to the central metropolitan area of Guiyang.

With the growth of the road network, transport connections between towns and villages in Xiuwen have become faster and more convenient.

Since 2017, Xiuwen has accelerated the construction of hardened roads in villages, solving travel difficulties for villagers, and solved logistics problems for special agricultural products.

Solving drinking water problems

During the 13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20) period, Xiuwen county implemented water supply projects, which solved drinking water safety problems for 219,900 rural people in the county.

In Xiuwen, the Yangming River, Chuanshanyan River and Waguanyao River merge into the Xiuwen River. To make the Xiuwen River clearer and more beautiful, the county strengthened its source management and built parks around the three rivers, enhancing the living environment.

Yangming culture

Since 2015, Xiuwen county has continued to endorse the research, inheritance and promotion of Yangming culture.

It promoted the high-standard construction of the China Yangming Culture Park.

From 1508 to 1510, Wang Yangming, a famous philosopher of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), set up his famous philosophy school in Xiuwen county and took the opportunity to deliver lectures to local people. As a result, Xiuwen is also known as "the holy land of Yangming philosophy."

Industrial development

During the past five years, Xiuwen vigorously implemented park leadership and technological innovation. It also fully promoted the development of the three major industrial parks in the county.

In 2019, Xiuwen achieved a total output value of 21 billion yuan ($3.25 billion) from industries above the designated size.

Meanwhile, the county continued to optimize the layout of the agricultural industry and vigorously develop advantageous industries.

The planting scale of various fruit trees in the county reached 322,400 mu (21,493.33 hectares) over the past five years. Specifically, the planting area of kiwi fruit reached 167,000 mu, ranking first and third in the country and the province, respectively.

Tourism development

In 2019, the county received 21.03 million visits, and its comprehensive tourism income was 18.17 billion yuan – 2.87 times and 3.4 times that of 2015.

At present, the county's tourism market boasts four 4A-level scenic spots, 35 rural tourist villages and more than 300 rural inns with more than 15,000 beds.
