In recent years, Xiuwen county in Guiyang, the capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has developed special rural agricultural industries to help farmers increase their incomes. The county's efforts have achieved remarkable results.
The county has used advantageous industrial clusters to achieve multi-industry common development. It has developed the farming of vegetables, edible fungi and poultry, and ensured that its agricultural industries have a short cycle, limited investment and quick results.
Xiuwen has enhanced the construction of modern agriculture and promoted local employment transfers.
In 2020, the county added 124,200 mu (8,280 hectares) of economic crops, of which 82,800 mu were fruits, and 23,700 mu were low-efficiency corn.
It has completed capacity improvement projects on 25 family pig farms, 13 pig breeding communities and 10 large-scale breeding facilities.
The county has set up poverty alleviation shopping areas in more than 20 places, including scenic spots, hotels, shopping malls and supermarkets. These areas sell vegetables, fruits, medicine, milk, pork, pepper, eggplant and tomatoes.
Through this method, a total of 335,700 metric tons of agricultural products were sold in 2020, with a sales value of 2.61 billion yuan ($402.78 million).
Xiuwen county's efforts have promoted the standardization, scale and branding of the agricultural industry.
