Guizhou promotes development of fungi industry

The first China red pine mushroom festival and wild mushroom and health high-end forum kicked off on Oct 24 in Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province.

Nearly 100 experts, academics and entrepreneurs from Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan, Hunan, and Guangxi participated in the two-day event.

They presented suggestions for the development of the red pine mushroom industry and for mushroom production and research into edible Guizhou fungi.

During the event, scientific research institutions and companies made presentations about mushroom tea.

The red pine mushroom has high nutritional value and is very popular in the province.

In recent years, the production of fungi in Guizhou has developed rapidly. The industry, including the red pine mushroom, has been designated as one of 12 special sectors in the rural industrial revolution of the province.

In the first three quarters of this year, the province's fungi output reached 1.11 million metric tons, with an output value of 14.4 billion yuan ($2.15 billion).

To date, 85 counties and districts in the province have developed the fungi industry and cultivated more than 30 types of fungus on a large scale.
