Xiuwen kiwifruit to come to market at the end of September

Recently, kiwifruit the size of half an egg have been spotted hanging from the tree branches at the kiwifruit farm in Pingtan village in Gubao town, Xiuwen county -- in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, according to the locals.

This year, the kiwifruit crop has grown well because it has not been affected by natural disasters such as hail. It is expected that the kiwifruit will be fully mature and come to market at the end of September and early October.

The cultivation area of the kiwifruit farm covers more than 12,000 mu (or 800 hectares), and all 22 poverty-stricken households numbering 64 people are involved in the planting.

Last year, the total income earned from the kiwifruit in Pingtan village hit 70 million yuan ($9.89 million) and per capita disposable income of the farmers reached about 17,000 yuan.

Locals say that with the kiwifruit industry the main industry, the village has also strongly developed its rural tourism and rural folk cultural industries.

Since 2013, it has received support from the central and local governments to build and renovate eight boutique inns. The village currently receives 60,000 tourists every year.
