Wudang district of Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has made significant strides in enhancing healthcare through digital empowerment, bringing convenient services directly to residents.

The initiative aims to elevate medical service capacity and meet the diverse health needs of the community, ushering healthcare into the era of smart technology.

Leveraging what officials call a comprehensive "data cloud platform, healthcare community management system and interconnected public medical institution framework," Wudang district has integrated its central hospital with 11 township health clinics and community health service centers into a unified information system.

This structure is said to foster integrated platforms, data sharing, and effective management – addressing issues like unreasonable compensation for medical staff members and the challenges residents face in accessing timely care.

The "smart healthcare" initiative has transformed the role of general practitioners – enhancing accuracy and safety while breaking down information silos through electronic medical records.

To date, the district's health information platform has aggregated over 20 million healthcare data entries, enabling health records sharing and seamless communications between the district's health platform and municipal health cloud.

Since the launch of its digital tiered diagnosis platform, Wudang district has conducted over 60,000 remote diagnoses for grassroots medical institutions, saving residents time and over 10 million yuan in medical expenses.

Additionally, the district offers an integrated online and offline service model through self-service terminals and WeChat – effectively tackling long waiting times for appointments, consultations and boosting medication retrievals.
