It's that time of year again when the grapes are ripe in Matou village, Xinpu township, Wudang district in Guiyang. The village is a bustling scene, where villagers busily help customers pick, weigh, and pack the various grape varieties that hang from the branches.
"Since early August, many visitors have come to pick grapes at the vineyard every day, and on weekends, we host dozens of people in a single day," said Chen Zhengyong, the Party chief of Matou village and a well-known local grower.
He and the village started developing the grape industry in 2011. Today, the fruit tree cultivation area in the village spans over 2,000 mu (133.33 hectares) and includes grapes, plums, and pears, with every household growing fruit.
The village has worked to broaden its residents' paths to wealth by developing the fruit industry and improving the rural living environment. Efforts have been made to revitalize idle rural houses and develop the summer resort industry by integrating agriculture and cultural tourism. So far, the village is home to 14 agritourism farms and 22 guesthouses.
The combined annual output of the primary and tertiary industries in the village has exceeded 20 million yuan ($2.81 million), with per capita net income increasing to 26,000 yuan.
