The Baiyi Training Base of Guizhou Vocational College of Agriculture in Hongqi village, Baiyi town, Wudang district in Guiyang, integrates agricultural education and training, technology transfer, experimental demonstration, application promotion, and science education.
At the training base, neatly arranged agricultural greenhouses line the roads, with colorful "space fruit and vegetables" hanging from the branches and vines.
The general manager of Dongfanghong Aerospace Biotechnology Co explained that space breeding involves placing selected crop seeds on a space satellite, where they are subjected to the unique environmental effects of space, such as high vacuum, microgravity, and cosmic ion radiation.
This process induces natural mutations in the seeds, which are then returned to Earth for cultivation. Unlike genetically modified foods, space-bred crops do not have artificially inserted genes, making them safe and risk-free with high nutritional value. The "space fruit and vegetables" promoted by the base have shown strong disease resistance, high yields, good quality, and excellent taste after two years of experimental cultivation.
In addition to allowing visitors to pick their own produce, the base also delivers fruits and vegetables to nearby hotels and guesthouses so that locals can enjoy "space fruit and vegetables".
