A cultural activity featuring a bamboo drifting performance took place on July 7 in Dongfeng town, Wudang district, Guiyang. Through the unique performance, the event showcased local intangible cultural heritage and provided a visual feast for audiences.
In bamboo drifting, a person stands barefoot on a single piece of bamboo approximately 20 centimeters in diameter and uses a thin bamboo pole as a paddle to navigate on the water. The practitioner balances by tapping the water with the pole, moving forward and backward, turning around, making curves, and switching poles. It is a highly-difficult technique to master.
During the performance, the performers danced gracefully to a series of melodious tunes on single bamboo poles. They executed splits, stood on one leg , and moved on the bamboo as if walking on solid ground. Their superb skills and thrilling movements earned rounds of applause from the crowd.
