In recent years, the new energy vehicle industry has seen rapid growth, with the recycling and reuse of power batteries receiving widespread public attention.
Located in Wudang district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, Guizhou Jiahong Energy Technology Co, established in 2021, focuses on the recycling and cascade utilization of used power batteries, filling a gap in this area for Guizhou.
Sun Hao, the company's general manager, said that the cascade utilization involves dismantling and reassembling retired power batteries with good performance, then repurposing them for scenarios with low power demands, such as low-speed vehicles, construction vehicles, energy storage cabinets, and solar street lights.
The recycling and reuse of new energy batteries is essentially about comprehensive resource utilization and maximizing benefits, which will contribute to the further development of the new energy vehicle industry.
Within just three years, the company has secured two invention patents, one invention patent under substantive examination, and eight utility model patents, providing technical support that gives the company a competitive edge in the market.
Since it began trial production in April last year, the company's cumulative revenue has exceeded 25 million yuan ($3.45 million). Due to the average lifespan of new energy batteries being six to seven years, the market for recycling waste batteries in the Guizhou is expected to keep rising in the coming years. To meet future market demand, the company invested in the construction of a new 20,000-square-meter production line this year.
The production line is scheduled to be completed in June and production to begin in October, after equipment installation and debugging are completed. By then, the company will have an annual capacity to process 15,000 metric tons of discarded new energy batteries.
As a deputy secretary-general of Guizhou Provincial New Energy Battery Recycling and Reusing Professional Committee, Sun also envisions establishing standardized regional collection points in Guizhou and strengthening collaboration with research institutions to continuously create new technologies and processes, thereby achieving standardized development in the industry.
