In celebration of China Tourism Day on May 19, a grand ethnic parade and carnival took place on May 18 in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
The parade featured 10 phalanxes from Guiyang's 10 districts and counties, among which the phalanx from Wudang district performed the Huagun Dance – a provincial intangible cultural heritage. Huagun refers to sticks decorated with flowers. Known as the "Oriental disco", the Huagun Dance showcases the enthusiasm and passion of the Miao people.
A total of 119 middle school students from Xiaba town, Wudang district dressed in festive attire and held Huagun as they danced gracefully under the guidance of professional practitioners of the Huagun Dance while accompanied by drums, suonas, and tubas.
