Green efforts boost Wudang's transformation

Adhering to the concept that "Lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets," Wudang district in Guiyang, capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province, is on the path to high-quality economic and social development while protecting the environment.

During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), Wudang completed the delineation and standardization of 176 water source protection areas and built 92 parks of various types.

It also tended to forests covering 25,000 mu (1,666.67 hectares) and consolidated the achievements of mountain body control covering 1,115 mu.

In the first five months of this year, the standard rate of centralized drinking water sources in Wudang was 100 percent, while air quality was rated "good" or "excellent" on all days.

In recent years, Wudang has taken the lead in the province in exploring green development.

It is the first to develop a "Two Mountains" ecological environment intelligent cloud platform and developed the first county-level river chief cloud supervision platform in Guizhou province.

It has used big data to collect ecological data on key river basins, key areas and key enterprises to explore and cultivate the environmentally-friendly industrial system.

Meanwhile, Wudang has promoted the comprehensive management of the Wudang section of the Nanming River, strengthened the control of industrial waste gas, straw burning and urban dust, sped up the comprehensive renovation of damaged mountains, and increased the pollution control of livestock and poultry breeding.

Moreover, it has continued to improve its living environment and achieved a centralized urban sewage treatment rate of 99.6 percent.

In the future, Wudang will work to achieve a regional GDP of 32.5 billion yuan, a population of 500,000, and an urban built-up area of 45 square kilometers.
