The Wudang district of Guiyang -- the capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province -- has reportedly made substantial achievements in advancing its agricultural modernization in recent years, and continues to do so in the current year.

In the first half of this year, its total agricultural output was worth 1.42 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 9.4 percent.

The agricultural added value came at 881 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 7.1 percent, while the per capita disposable income of its rural residents reached 11,483 yuan, up 15 percent.

During the period, Wudang also completed work involving 8,200 mu (547 hectares) in a premium farmland improvement demonstration area.

As a result of all the work, the district has reportedly achieved 100 percent coverage rates of its effective irrigation, road access and land transfers. It has achieved the same result in its coverage rate of new business entities and efficient planting methods that are utilized in demonstration areas.

The average agricultural output value per mu is projected in the current year to be more than 12,000 yuan ($1,800), effectively increasing the value of the land.

Meanwhile, Wudang has cultivated more than 10 premium-quality fruit and vegetable varieties suitable for planting and popularization in the district and upgraded 2,600 mu of low-efficiency gardens.

The district's processing and conversion rate for agricultural products in the first half increased by 21 percent, compared with the same period last year.

To increase the income being generated by agriculture and tourism, Wudang is said to have developed a comprehensive industry supply chain for fruit and vegetable picking, tasting, sightseeing and accommodation.

In the first half, the district received 5.07 million tourists and the negated total tourism revenue amounted to 3.82 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 43.92 percent.

From May to July this year, Yangchang, Pingba and Jiagang villages in Wudang reportedly received around 1,000 tourists in total from Chongqing municipality, Hunan province and the Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region.

Their revenue from catering and accommodation generated during the three months reached 6 million yuan.
