In line with the national environmental concept of "lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets", the Wudang district – located in the city of Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – is exploring a green development path with the priority of protecting the ecosystem.

In recent years, it's understood that the district has made every effort to promote the comprehensive improvement of its rivers.

A total of 232 pipeline networks along the Songxi and Huanxi rivers in the jurisdiction of Wudang were repaired, while 4,480 meters of pipes were dredged.

Specialists were hired for the long-term inspection and cleaning of the two waterways.

A joint law enforcement team was also established to deal with the direct discharge of sewage into rivers, in a bid to ensure that the water quality of the Songxi River and Huanxi River continues to meet acceptable standards.

Meanwhile, the surface water environment monitoring network has continuously been improved, with 14 surface water rivers and 16 monitoring points in Wudang's jurisdiction being included within the scope of the dynamic supervision.

Law enforcement inspections of pollution sources such as industrial clusters, livestock and poultry breeding industries and construction projects have also been beefed up.

Additionally, Wudang has established a wetland protection system – with wetland nature reserves and wetland parks as the main focus and wetland ecosystem as a supplementary concern.

Efforts to return farmland to forests, grasses and wetlands have been intensified, while the protection of aquatic wildlife nature reserves and the diversity of aquatic biodiversity has been increased.
