A work symposium on Guizhou's Science and Technology Backyard, organized by the China Rural Special Technology Association, was held at Guizhou University in Guiyang city on March 29. During the symposium, the first batch of "Guizhou Science and Technology Backyards" was officially certified.

Representatives from science and technology backyards across the province gathered to discuss topics such as talent cultivation, achievement transformation, and social services in depth.

Science and Technology Backyards are platforms for agricultural science and technology services. They were jointly created by the China Rural Special Technology Association and CAST's Rural Special Technology Service Center.

Currently, there are 55 experts and 67 students stationed in science and technology backyards across the province. They have conducted 430 farmer training sessions, published 153 academic papers, held 36 science popularization activities, and obtained 48 patents.

Xu Duhan, a student conducting research at the Guanling Beef Cattle Science and Technology Backyard, was honored as the "Outstanding Graduate Student" in 2021. Other achievements include the Qixingguan Prickly Pear Science and Technology Backyard being awarded the title of "Most Beautiful Science and Technology Backyard" in the country in 2022, and the "Guanling Cattle" brand from Guizhou Guanling Beef Cattle Science and Technology Backyard won the Gold Award at the 106th Panama Pacific International Exposition in 2021.

"Technological innovation in agriculture is an important means to achieve rural vitalization. Without the support of agricultural technology, agricultural modernization lacks fundamental momentum," said Yang Yongbin, vice chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Association for Science and Technology.

He also emphasized that science and technology backyards across the province should further integrate with actual agricultural production, and conduct research on key technical issues that restrict local industry development.

Qian Bin, chairman of the Guizhou Provincial Rural Special Technology Research Association, stated that the association will now focus on collaborating with the Department of Education, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and other relevant departments to increase the involvement of experts and ensure financial support for science and technology backyards.
