Guiyang – capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province – and the nearby Guian New Area have been actively promoting the application of technology to boost production capacity across various industries since the start of the year.

The overall implementation has been coordinated by the Guiyang bureau of science and technology.

The aim of the initiative is to increase tech achievements in target areas – like agricultural technology, industrial technology, construction technology, tourism technology and digital technology – as well as to accelerate their transformation into tangible productivity.

In recent years, Guiyang – an old player in traditional manufacturing – has embraced green technology systems to embark on a new path to sustainable development.

The city is currently home to 16 nationally recognized green factories, three green industrial parks, 13 green design products and six green supply chain management companies.

The processing of agricultural products in the city has seen increased output and quality improvements with the use of modern equipment.

At Guiyang Yuanweixiang Oil Pressing Factory, for example, the use of such equipment for oil extraction has resulted in oil output equivalent to seven to eight times that of conventional equipment, with a significantly higher clarity of oil.

Technology is also entertaining and is helping to bolster tourism in the region. The Geological Museum of Guizhou in Guiyang City uses AR devices and 3D technology to virtually recreate prehistoric life forms, attracting more visitors.

Overall, Guiyang and Guian's industries – including manufacturing, agriculture and tourism – have experienced significant growth with the support of technology.

Currently, the proportion of the total output value of strategic emerging industries in Guiyang's industrial sector has reached 29.7 percent, ranking Guiyang first in Guizhou.

In 2023, Guiyang and Guian have included a total of 536 companies in the first batch of provincial high-tech enterprise evaluations, the highest number in Guizhou.

The city also registered 7.81 billion yuan ($1.07 billion) in technology contract certifications, achieving 57-percent year-on-year growth and leading the province in terms of the total amount.
