Tech business incubators and makerspaces are important carriers of technological innovation and entrepreneurship and the city of Guiyang – located in Southwest China's Guizhou province – is continuing to focus on their development, a process it has been conducting in recent years.
Since the start of the year, the Guiyang bureau of science and technology has cultivated and identified 13 municipal-level technology business incubators and makerspaces. It has given 300,000 yuan ($44,516) to each technology business incubator and 200,000 yuan to each makerspace, allocating 2.7 million yuan in funds.
In the finals of the 2022 Guiyang College Students' Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition held on May 6, some 22 application projects from 11 colleges and universities across the country competed.
They were in such fields as electronics information manufacturing, health medicine, big data software, the information service industry, tourism and in other areas.
At the event, eight investment and financing institutions signed investment agreements with 20 of the participating projects – and more than 30 incubators and makerspaces expressed their willingness to provide free incubation venues and services for the winning projects.
The head of the Guiyang bureau of science and technology said that, moving forwards, it would promote the transfer and transformation of more scientific and technological achievements – providing support to help accelerate the industrial upgrading and construction of the national economy and social informatization.
