Scientific and technological innovation in Southwest China's Guizhou province has achieved rapid development in recent years. Its achievements have been recognized by the China Academy of Science and Technology Development Strategy and included in the "China Regional Scientific and Technological Innovation Evaluation Report 2021".
It has been reported that Guizhou's scientific and technological innovation capabilities have significantly improved.
Last year, its regional innovation capabilities ranked 18th in the country, four places higher than in 2015, and its comprehensive scientific and technological innovation level ranked 25th in the country, five places higher than in 2015.
Total R&D expenditures increased from 6.23 billion yuan ($936.19 million) in 2015 to 16.17 billion yuan in 2020, with an average annual growth rate of 21.02 percent, ranking first in the country; the number of invention patents per 10,000 people increased from 1.56 in 2015 to 3.93 in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 20.3 percent; and the output value of high-tech industries increased from 282.08 billion yuan in 2015 to 533.4 billion yuan in 2021, with an average annual growth rate of 13.59 percent.
The main body of scientific and technological innovation continues to grow. In 2020, there were 1,897 high-tech enterprises, five times the number in 2015.
The regional innovation system has also gradually improved in recent years. As of 2021, there were 98 national-level innovation platforms and 11 high-tech zones at the provincial level and above.
In addition, the province's technological innovation environment has been continuously optimized and technological innovation policies have been further improved.
