Officials from the Guiyang bureau of science and technology and the Guian New District Science and Technology Innovation Center – located in Southwest China's Guizhou province – on April 14 carried out field research and fact-finding on stabilizing grain supplies and ensuring a high productivity agricultural sector in the region.
In Gaofeng town, Li Meng, deputy director of Guiyang bureau of science and technology, learned about the technological development needs of the agricultural industry in the town and went to Longbao village to check the situation about rice seedlings and grape planting.
He suggested that the town should give full play to the supporting role of scientific and technological innovation in the agricultural industry.
He added that it should also strengthen cooperation with universities and scientific research institutions, as well as carry out scientific and technological research on high-quality and high-yield rice.
In Kaiyang county, Li held talks with the Kaiyang Selenium-enriched Industry Development Center and the Kaiyang county bureau of industry and information technology on the construction of Guizhou province's Selenium-enriched Industrial Technology Center. Selenium is an essential trace mineral found in soil, water and various foods that is good for the health and can be taken in pill form.
Li pointed out that the construction of the center was an important measure undertaken by the local government to comprehensively promote the work in the field of science and technology.
He suggested that the center's construction should utilize Kaiyang's selenium-enriched natural resources. This would provide technical support and technological services for the development of the selenium-enriched industry in Guizhou.
In addition, he said the new center should fully rely on the innovative strength of scientific and technological institutions inside and outside the province to boost the R&D.
