A meeting was held on April 12 to discuss plans to build the proposed Wujiang Laboratory – including determining its site – in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province.
Jiang Fangju, director of Guiyang bureau of science and technology, presided over the meeting.
Participants included the heads of various Guiyang municipal departments, the main heads of the science and technology innovation bureau of the Guiyang High-tech Industrial Development Zone, the main heads of the Innovation Service Center of the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone and the heads of the five companies that are sponsoring the lab.
At the meeting, the parties discussed the lab's establishment plan, charter, operations plan and other matters.
Jiang emphasized that the establishment of the Wujiang Laboratory was a key part of the strategic cooperation between the provincial government and Beijing's Tsinghua University.
Jiang added that it would be an important platform, relying on the university's scientific and technological innovation resources, to promote the high-quality economic and social development of the province and city.
She said it would be a support for Guizhou's strategic emerging industries – as an important base for technological research and development and transformation – and that the various municipal government departments and development zones should closely coordinate and cooperate with the construction of the lab.
Jiang suggested that the Guiyang Economic and Technological Development Zone determine the construction site for the Wujiang Laboratory as soon as possible, as well as speed up the revision and improvements to its establishment plan and articles of association.
In addition, she called on the district to complete the registration of the legal entity of the laboratory by mid-May, to ensure matters are followed up.
