Guizhou eyes high-quality development driven by strong scientific and technological support

A group of experts, scholars and entrepreneurs in the field of science and technology have put forward opinions and suggestions on the economic and social development of Guizhou during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, at a meeting chaired by Sun Zhigang, Secretary of the Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Director of the Standing Committee of the Provincial People's Congress of Guizhou.

Sun stressed that Guizhou should study and implement the spirit of the fifth plenary session of the 19th Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, insist on innovation-driven development, and provide more powerful scientific and technological support for promoting the high-quality economic and social development of the province.

The economic and social development of Guizhou has continued to improve in recent years, and its economic growth rate has been among the fastest in the country.

As China enters a new development stage of building a comprehensive and modern socialist system, Guizhou too needs to seize the major new opportunities of building a new development pattern, promoting high-quality development in all fields of the economy and society, and solving the problems caused by unbalanced and insufficient development.

New development stages and patterns require more powerful support from scientific and technological innovation and greater contributions from scientific and technological workers.

Guizhou must adhere to innovation-driven development, accelerate the pace of scientific and technological innovation, and deepen the reforms to its scientific and technological systems, Sun said.

More efforts will be made in scientific and technological research, the transformation of results, and advanced science and technology promotion and application, centered on the in-depth promotion of a rural industrial revolution, industrial and service industry transformation and upgrading, strategic emerging industry development, environmental protection and social governance.

In addition, Guizhou will vigorously highlight and promote the important role of scientists and create opportunities for scientists and technological workers to display their talents. Party committees and governments at all levels need to increase investment and support for scientific and technological work, strengthen training and the introduction of scientific and technological talents, and create a good environment for scientific and technological innovation, Sun stressed.
