Huaxi strawberries selected as national local specialty

"Hua Xiao Mei", a strawberry brand from Huaxi district in Guiyang, made the promotional list of 2023 national local specialties at the 2023 National Expo for Local Specialties, which was held from Dec 16-17 in Dali, a county-level city in Southwest China's Yunnan province.

The expo aimed to integrate advantageous resources, promote outstanding local specialties, increase awareness of local specialties, stimulate consumption of local specialties, and promote the integrated development of the local specialty industry.

To date, Huaxi district has cultivated more than 5,000 mu (366.67 hectares) of strawberries with an annual yield of 7,000 metric tons and an output value of 330 million yuan ($46.17 million). The value of the "Hua Xiao Mei" brand has reached 492 million yuan.

By establishing and promoting the brand, the district is accelerating the integration of the strawberry industry and shifting the positioning of the strawberry industry from a singular agricultural product to snacks, leisure goods, and tourism commodities.

Through the combination of the primary, secondary, and tertiary industries, Huaxi is exploring new directions for the development and transformation of the strawberry industry, making it one of the leading industries in local rural vitalization efforts.
