Huaxi district in Guiyang, Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently completed an urban renovation project involving an old residential area of 166.46 mu (11.10 hectares) encompassing 2,088 households and 30 back alleys spanning a total of three kilometers.

The project included rebuilding the pipelines, corridors, exterior walls as well as those inside the residential buildings, removing illegal constructions, and adding new facilities and landscape greening.

For the back alleys, efforts were made to improve their rainwater and sewage diversions, rebuild drainage systems, and build new supporting facilitates such as community day care centers for the elderly and comprehensive cultural service centers.

In addition to the renovation work, the district introduced new business forms popular among young people such as concept bookstores, themed cafes, and bakeries.

Meanwhile, to improve the local environment, the district built a bridge connecting Huaxi Park on the bank of the Huaxi River for residents to enjoy the park's tourism resources. It also created themed alleys such as Osmanthus Alley and Huazhou Alley by unifying the style and facade of the old walled streets.

The results of the renovation work were warmly welcomed and praised by local residents.
