The ripe yellow peaches in Gumeng village, Huaxi district, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, attracted flocks of visitors eager to pick them and enjoy some summer fun in the orchards.

In recent years, by transforming villagers' idle lands, Gumeng village has established a 600-mu (40 hectares) high-quality orchard planting base to boost the picking economy. It mainly plants yellow peaches and prunes and has become an important yellow peach planting base in the district.

The base employs 350 workers annually, while the village collective pays an annual dividend of 40,000 yuan ($5,648). By planting the fruit trees, all villagers have been able to increase their incomes.

Yellow peaches ripen every month from May to October, while prunes ripen from July to August. In addition to the sweet fruits in the orchards, the village has made efforts to improve the environment and infrastructure to attract more visitors, becoming a new popular destination.
