Huaxi district in Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, has renovated a number of villages since November 2021.

Huaxi has used big data to build a rural housing management platform which realizes the online handling of rural housing processes, completed the construction of a rural homestead management information system, as well as developed demonstration villages for the revitalization of unused rural houses.

Longjing and Shanwangmiao are city-level pilot villages in the district that have turned idle farmhouses into rural homestays, increasing income for local residents.

The district has promoted the treatment of drinking water and domestic sewage. It has established sewage treatment systems in more than 30 villages, and will go on to complete sewage treatment systems of another 123 villages in 2023.

Huaxi has mobilized farmers to participate in the construction of toilets and the excavation of septic tank foundation pits, and organized toilet improvement technicians, craftsmen and improvement supervisors to conduct special training on rural toilet renovation.

To promote the comprehensive treatment of rural domestic waste, the district has established a rural waste treatment and management system, promoted rural waste classification, assessed the effectiveness of garbage classification, and reduced the outward transportation of rural garbage.

In the future, Huaxi will continue to improve the rural living environment by relying on local natural resources, human resources and industrial development.
