Located in eastern Liutun town, Xiuwen county, Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's province, Dushan village is a picturesque destination where lush green mountains and clear waters create a harmonious landscape, attracting numerous tourists to visit.
Nearly half of the village's residents belong to the Bouyei ethnic group, known for their love of wine, song, and hospitality. Bouyei families greet guests with homemade rice wine, accompanied by a lively toasting song that encourages guests to drink and enjoy the moment.
The Bouyei people's most important festival is the Liuyueliu Festival, during which they slaughter chickens, make blood offerings in the fields, and prepare zongzi (rice dumplings). These customs reflect their reverence for their ancestors, the land, and nature, as well as their hopes for prosperity and abundance.
Dushan village boasts exceptional natural conditions, with a forest coverage rate of 66 percent. It is located near Xiuwen Taoyuanhe scenic spot, a national 4A-level tourist attraction, and is a must-visit for those embarking on a river drifting adventure. The village has developed 15 homestays, a visitor center, three eco-friendly parking lots, and three public restrooms, significantly enhancing the overall tourism experience.
In addition to promoting rural tourism, Dushan village has prioritized agricultural planting and animal husbandry as key industries to boost local economic development and increase residents' incomes.
In 2022, with the help of the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, Dushan village utilized its collective forestland and leased local farmland to cultivate traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. This initiative has solved raw material shortages for pharmaceutical companies and created employment opportunities for over 30 local villagers.
The village also grows kiwi, plums, and peaches as its primary agricultural products, with rice, corn, and rapeseed being the main crops. With support from the Guiyang bureau of agriculture and rural affairs, Dushan village's beef cattle farming industry has also grown.
This year, Dushan village was included in the sixth batch of key rural tourism villages announced by the Guizhou Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Guizhou Provincial Development and Reform Commission. This recognition has bolstered the village's confidence and determination to further develop rural tourism and promote rural vitalization.
