The international freight route from Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, to Kolkata, India, had been in operation for 30 days as of Jan 12, according to Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport.

The route is scheduled to operate three times a week: every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Within a month, 24 flights had been operated, transporting nearly 282 metric tons of import and export cargo, worth $8.2 million.

Of that total, 88 tons of imported goods were valued at about $640,000, while 194 tons of exported goods were valued at approximately $7.56 million.

The imported goods included fresh green crabs, and the exported goods mainly consisted of clothing fabrics, hardware, chemical materials, and electronic materials.

It took an average of six hours to secure outbound cargo on a flight, and 1.5 hours on average for inbound cargo from the time the flight lands to the time the cargo is loaded and picked up by trucks.

Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport will continue to open direct charter flights to major fresh food resource areas, such as Phuket Island in Thailand, Russia and Norway. The main imported goods from these regions include king crabs, snow crabs, lobsters and other fresh products, as well as salmon and other chilled and frozen products.

These flight routes will allow more fresh products to enter the domestic market, helping Guizhou achieve a stable economic and social development.
