The 19th Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize was announced in Beijing on Sept 5. After a selection process that included recommendation, qualification reviews, professional group preliminary evaluations, a final review meeting, a prize guidance committee review, and a public announcement, 42 projects in the field of civil engineering, including the Guiyang-Weng'an Expressway and Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport underground integrated transportation hub tunnel, were awarded.

Established in 1999, the Tien-yow Jeme Civil Engineering Prize has been successfully held 19 times, with 566 projects awarded. It is the most influential and authoritative scientific and technological innovation award in the field of civil engineering in China. Through its exemplary and leading role, it continuously promotes the high-quality development of China's civil engineering industry.

The Guiyang Longdongbao International Airport underground integrated transportation hub tunnel project is the first "air-ground integrated vertical transportation hub" in China, completed in 2014 and achieving multimodal transfer.

The main tunnel is 3,009 meters long, with a total length of 2,210 meters for the uplink and downlink. The designed speed of the main tunnel is 250 kilometers per hour. The tunnel passes underneath the surface parking lot, bus station, subway station, underground parking lot, air traffic control building, and cargo parking lot.

The Guiyang-Weng'an Expressway is 71 kilometers long with a designed speed of 80 km per hour. Through innovative design concepts, intense scientific research, and strict project management, the project is expected to contribute to technological innovation, targeted poverty alleviation, ethnic unity, environmental protection, and tourism related to the history of China's Red Army.

The completion and opening of the Guiyang-Weng'an Expressway not only improve the transportation infrastructure of Kaiyang and Weng'an counties, enabling them to integrate into the "one-hour economic circle" of Guiyang, but also reduce travel time between Guiyang to Weng'an from 3.5 hours to just 1 hour.

This promotes the rapid and coordinated development of the regional economy and makes Guizhou the first province in West China where every county is connected by expressways.
