In 2022, Guiyang in Southwest China's Guizhou saw 2,642 newly-registered invention patents and 10,775 valid invention patents, making it the city with the most rapid growth rate and quantity of invention patents in the province.
Among the latter category, 315 were non-service invention patents, while 10,460 were service invention patents. Enterprises accounted for 6,976 of the service invention patents, followed by universities and colleges (2,141), research institutions (1,071), and government agencies and organizations (272).
In terms of industry distribution, the manufacturing industry had the highest number of valid invention patents, with 9,156, followed by agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry, and fishery with 801, mining with 352, information transmission, software, and information technology services with 324, electric power, heat, gas, and water production and supply with 76, and construction with 66 patents.
Among Guiyang's top 10 industrial categories, 2,949 invention patents were involved in advanced equipment manufacturing, 1,036 in the modern chemical industry, 1,070 in health and pharmaceuticals, 1,346 in big data and the electronic information industry, 1,170 in the clean and efficient power industry, 398 in the ecological and special food industry, 632 in basic materials, 633 in new building materials, 431 in high-quality tobacco and alcohol, and 272 in the basic energy industry.
In recent years, Guiyang has been helping companies overcome core technology issues in priority areas, promoting the comprehensive use of patents and comprehensively enhancing the creation, utilization, and protection of intellectual property rights.
