Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, was recently nominated for the 12th Qian Xuesen Urbanology Science Gold Award for its transit-oriented development (TOD) big data monitoring and assessment system.

TOD is a development model focusing on public transport networks, and it develops according to the surrounding landscapes, so as to build an urban environment with intensive land conservation, convenient and efficient transportation, low carbon emissions, and green transportation.

Guiyang's TOD system is a platform for evaluation, development guidance, decision support, and information services. The platform also monitors TOD for quantitative analysis and multi-dimensional visualization.

The system has 93 functions in four aspects: TOD platform data fusion analysis; TOD effect evaluation and analysis; TOD development quality tracking, mechanism effect prediction and auxiliary decision-making; and TOD information services.

The system includes information for land use, regional related data, road infrastructure networks, and dynamic traffic data. This data includes bus route operations, bus tracking, bus pass utilization, checkpoint flow statistics, online car-hailing data, subway line operations, subway passenger flow, mobile signaling, and taxi tracking data.
