Guiyang helps 510,000 people shake off poverty

In recent years, Guiyang – capital city of Southwest China's Guizhou province – has provided poverty alleviation assistance to 13 impoverished counties in the province which has helped lift 510,000 people out of poverty.

Guiyang has made sustained efforts in livelihood improvements, industrial development and personnel training. It has invested 963 million yuan ($146.69 million) of municipal funds and collected another 870 million yuan of social funds to implement 458 assistance projects and provide 562,100 job positions.

Some 43 schools in Guiyang became assistance partners of 41 schools in the poor counties, while 22 of the city's hospitals helped 31 hospitals in less privileged regions – with the city also offering training for county and village-level officials and sending 85 of its officials to impoverished counties.

Since 2017, Guiyang has purchased 4.79 million metric tons of agricultural products and sold 49.57 billion yuan of agricultural products, in a bid to help 10 counties to shake off poverty.

In 2018, the provincial capital started providing assistance to Wangmo county, one of China's severely impoverished counties in Qianxi'nan Bouyei and Miao autonomous prefecture.

Guiyang invested 256 million yuan of municipal funds to directly implement poverty alleviation projects and helped 29,300 people shake off poverty.

Meanwhile, Guiyang's National High-tech Industrial Development Zone helped 127 people from Nayong county to find jobs in the zone's resident companies.

In addition, the Guiyang Economic and Technology Development Zone invested 22 million yuan to help Ziyun county develop 107 projects and hold six job fairs in the county.
