Guiyang, capital of Southwest China's Guizhou province, recently received letters of thanks from the city of Burnaby in Canada and Meath county in Ireland for providing anti-epidemic materials during the COVID-19 outbreak.

Both Burnaby and Meath provided support to Guiyang at the beginning of this year - a critical time for tackling the epidemic. To return the favor, Guiyang sent anti-epidemic materials to Burnaby and Meath on April 9 and 29, respectively.

According to Mike Hurley, mayor of Burnaby, he appreciates Guiyang's generous offer, which helped guarantee that Burnaby's professional medical workers could keep providing medical services to citizens.

Wayne Harding, chairman of Meath county council, said that Meath is honored to be a friendly city of Guiyang. All the anti-epidemic materials sent by Guiyang have been used to prevent and control COVID-19.

Guiyang and Burnaby signed agreements to become friendly cities on April 4, 2015. An education delegation from Burnaby visited Guiyang in October, 2019.

Guiyang and Meath established friendly relationships in 2013. In October 2014, a Guiyang delegation of investment promotion and trade investigation visited Meath. In September 2019, Guiyang's main government officials visited Meath and reached a consensus with Mr Harding on cooperation in areas like big data, tourism, agriculture, education and environmental protection.
