Forget diamonds or gold — the hottest cargo arriving in Guangzhou this season is spiky, pungent and irresistibly creamy: durian.
Nansha Port is now entering the peak of the durian season. This year, it is expected to receive more than 50 durian-bearing vessels and handle over 4,000 containers, further strengthening its role as China's leading durian import hub.
Nansha has operated its "Durian Express" service for six consecutive years. Since 2021, it has imported over 500,000 tons of fresh durians from Thailand and the Philippines, including popular varieties such as Monthong, Chanee and Kan Yao, accounting for one-third of China's seaborne durian imports.
