Nansha draws over 2.12m visitors during May Day holiday

Guangzhou's Nansha district welcomed more than 2.12 million visitors during the five-day May Day holiday, a 24.68 percent year-on-year increase, driven by a sold-out concert series and nearly 50 cultural and tourism events.

The four concerts by popular Chinese boy band TNT (Teens in Times) at the Greater Bay Area Sports Center drew 220,000 fans, over 95 percent of whom traveled from outside the city, generating approximately 200 million yuan in direct ticket revenue.

Capitalizing on the influx, Nansha rolled out a "ticket stub economy," granting concertgoers discounts at major shopping malls, scenic spots, and hotels. The strategy helped convert cross-city foot traffic into broader consumer spending, leading to an estimated 1.4 billion yuan ($29.4 billion) in total holiday consumption.

Six major commercial complexes alone recorded nearly 1.5 million visitors, with combined sales exceeding 22.5 million yuan. Major hotels reported an average occupancy rate of 80 percent, with many fully booked ahead of the holiday. The 2026 Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Lantern Festival welcomed 83,500 visitors, while Nansha's diverse attractions — from wetland parks and waterfront promenades to durian carnivals at the port fresh market — kept multiple scenic areas buzzing.

The fourth Nansha Coffee Culture Week attracted over 130,000 visitors, further enriching the district's holiday offerings. From concert-fueled excitement to seaside leisure and cultural immersion, the holiday performance underscores Nansha's growing appeal as a coastal micro-vacation destination in the Greater Bay Area.
